Frequency
From Encyclopædia
Frequency is one of the primary characteristics of a wave (see
WAVES AND WAVE MOTION). It refers to all kinds of waves, including
light, sound, and mechanical waves, and is the
number of times the wave varies through a complete cycle in a given unit of time. Frequency is denoted by either the symbol f or the Greek letter nu and is commonly expressed in hertz (Hz); 1 Hz equals 1 cycle per second. The frequency of a sound wave determines its pitch; that of a
light wave determines its
color.
