Encyclopædia:About
From Encyclopædia
Just like Wikipedia, Encyclopædia is written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. Under certain rules, the articles it contains can and should be edited by anyone, just by clicking the “edit this page” link. Encyclopædia.org uses the same software as Wikipedia.org, MediaWiki.
On each article, links will send you to related articles, with additional information. Anyone is welcome to add information, cross-references, citations, links or pictures as long as they do so within Encyclopædia’s policies and to an appropriate standard. One need not fear accidentally damaging Encyclopædia when adding or improving information, as other editors are always available to advise or correct common mistakes and inaccuracies. Encyclopædia's software, the same as Wikipedia’s (MediaWiki) is carefully designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes.
Encyclopædia is an ongoing project to which, in principle, anybody can contribute, it differs from a paper-based reference source in important ways. In particular, older articles tend to be more comprehensive and balanced, while newer articles may still contain significant misinformation or vandalism. Users need to be aware of this to obtain valid information and avoid misinformation that has been recently added and not yet corrected. Nevertheless and unlike a common paper encyclopædias, Encyclopædia.org is updated on real time, with the creation or updating of articles on topical events within minutes or hours, rather than months or years for printed encyclopedias.
Encyclopædia difers from Wikipedia as it's more focused on names. Names of famous people, locals, events or else. Thus, it pretends to be more of a reference source site. It does that by imposing much more restrictive editing policies.
Encyclopædia also difers from Wikipedia as the main articles have been created by real journalists and not members itself and thus its starting point is based on a much more authority and reliable content, just like a real Encyclopædia.
Unlike Wikipedia, which started from zero, Encyclopædia is a classic encyclopædia everyone can edit.
