Density, in physics, denotes the ratio of the Mass of a substance to its volume, expressed in grams per cubic centimeter or pounds per cubic foot. The ratio of the density of a substance to that of water is called the specific gravity of that substance. The term density is also used in many non-technical ratios, such as population density.
