cube
cube
In geometry, a cube is a solid bounded by 6 plane faces (a hexahedron) that are all congruent squares. It may also be defined as a regular POLYHEDRON having 6 faces. A cube has 8 vertices and 12 edges. For a cube having edges of length a, the volume is V = a X a X a. In algebra, the cube of a quantity is the third power of the quantity. For example, the cube of 4 is 4 X 4 X 4 = 4 to the power of 3 = 64; the cube of x is x to the power of 3; and the cube of 2y is (2y) to the power of 3 = 8y to the power of 3. The number 3 is the power, or exponent, of each expression.
