Acta diurna
From Encyclopædia
{ak'-tuh dy'-ur-nuh} The Acta diurna ("daily acts") were a type of Roman news gazette that began about 59 BC. The Acta consisted of political and social notices authorized by the state, copies of which were posted daily at public places in Rome and the provinces. One of the earliest forms of news dissemination, it reported such varied topics as official appointments, local births and deaths, and astronomical events.
