Acetaldehyde

{as-uht-al'-duh-hide} Acetaldehyde, also known as ethanal and as acetic aldehyde, is an organic compound belonging to the ALDEHYDE group. It is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor and
boils at 20.8 deg C. Acetaldehyde is produced in industrial quantities by the hydration of
acetylene or by the oxidation of ethyl
alcohol. Acetaldehyde is widely used as a starting material for the synthesis of many organic compounds.
