Abuja

{ah-boo'-jah} Abuja, Nigeria's first planned
city, is located in the sparsely-populated Chukuku Hills of
Central Nigeria. It replaced
Lagos as the official capital of the country in December 1991. The
city has modern roads and
communications facilities but is still under construction. It is part of the Federal Capital
territory, created in 1976, which has an area of 7,315 sq km (2,824 sq mi) and a population of 378,671 (1991).
