Aberystwyth

{ab-ur-ist'-with} Aberystwyth (1979 est. pop., 12,000) is a municipal borough on Cardigan Bay in the county of Dyfed, Wales. The town grew around a 13th-century Norman castle that was later destroyed. With the establishment of the university College of Wales (1872) and the National Library of Wales (1907), it became a center of Welsh culture.
