Aakjaer, Jeppe

{aw'-kyair, yep'-uh} Jeppe Aakjaer, b. Sept. 10, 1866, d. Apr. 22, 1930, was one of Denmark's finest social novelists and most popular poets. Such early novels as Children of Wrath (1904) deal with the harsh conditions of farm laborers in his native Jutland. His simple, lyric poetry has been set to music and is included in such volumes as Songs of the Rye (1906). He also wrote several volumes of memoirs.
